A small, owner-run tented camp in one of the Mara's conservancies, with no more than eight tents and some of the best guiding we have found in Kenya.

Why we send travellers here

Olkeri Mara Camp has eight canvas tents on raised decks along a seasonal river, in a conservancy that limits vehicles to one per 350 acres. That ratio is the reason to stay: on our last visit we watched a coalition of three cheetah hunt with no other vehicle in sight, something that is close to impossible in the main reserve in August.
The tents are simple and comfortable: a proper bed, an en-suite bathroom with a bucket-filled hot shower, solar power and a veranda for watching elephants walk down to the river. Meals are shared at a long table or served in the bush. Guides are Maasai from the landowning families and among the best we have worked with.
It is not luxurious in the marble-bathroom sense, and the drive to the main reserve takes forty minutes. For travellers who want space and serious guiding, it is hard to beat.

The details

  • Eight tents, including two family tents
  • Full board with game drives, walks and night drives
  • Conservancy fees go directly to the landowning families
  • Closed in April and May
We saw more in three days here than in a week in the reserve.A Wildside traveller, March 2026

Booked our camp from this and it was everything described. Waking up to elephants at the waterhole was unreal.

Honest, expert and full of respect for the places and the people. These notes made our safari.
