Casa Vicens, Palau Güell, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera and Park Güell, in the order he built them.

Follow him in order

Most visitors meet Antoni Gaudí at the end of his story, in the forest of columns of the Sagrada Família. It is a magnificent place, but it is easier to understand if you have watched him get there. Seen in the order he built them, his Barcelona buildings tell a story of an architect gradually abandoning the straight line.
Start in Gràcia at Casa Vicens, his first major house, finished in the 1880s: Moorish tiles, cast-iron palm leaves and still mostly square. Then Palau Güell, just off La Rambla, where the rooftop chimneys first become sculpture. On the Passeig de Gràcia, Casa Batlló has a roof like the back of a dragon and barely a right angle inside, and a few blocks up Casa Milà, La Pedrera, ripples like a quarry face. Finish at Park Güell, where the architecture finally dissolves into landscape.
Allow two days for all five, with the Sagrada Família as the finale.

Solid advice and lovely photos. A couple of the restaurants were full a week ahead, so reserve early.

Is this doable in a single day or would you split it over two?

Saving this for our trip in the spring. Does the route work with a toddler in a carrier?

Thank you for including the quieter alternatives. The main spot was packed when we went.
